Female Martial Arts Instructor returns home victorious from Full Contact Kickboxing Tournament

Scotch Plains own, Sharon Serdinsky is an 11 time National Champion and a 2 time World Champion martial artist. She is a 5th degree Black Belt and Instructor of the Korean Art called Taekwondo. Sharon took a maternity leave from competition in 2005. “It was hard for her leaving at the top of her game, but it was even harder to make a comeback after losing 60 pounds of pregnancy weight, and a three year retirement from competition,” her husband noted.

Sharon trains at the famous Serdinsky’s Martial Arts America in Scotch Plains, NJ. Her husband and coach Jeff Serdinsky started the academy back in 1991. Sharon made her “ comeback” to competition in 2007 winning double first place medals at both the New Jersey and Maryland A.A.U. State Championships. She reminded everyone on the competition circuit that she was the most dominant female competitor in her division.

This year, Sharon set her goals on a much more dangerous competition circuit. She trained extremely hard to compete in a full contact kickboxing match. On September 21st Sharon competed in the N.J. CCKL (New Jersey Continuous Contact Karate League) full contact kickboxing tournament and won a unanimous decision victory over her opponent.

We are all very proud of Sharon for not only winning her fight, but for setting an example to women of all ages to continue their dreams after pregnancy. She is an outstanding woman and an inspiration to all.
