Team USA Try-outs For Scotland Goodwill International Championship

Dear Instructors and students,

I am excited to announce that we will be hosting Team USA try-outs for the upcoming Goodwill International Championships held in beautiful Edinburgh, Scotland. The championship will be held on May 15th & 16th and is hosted by the G.T.U.K. Global Taekwondo United Kingdom.

Instructors, if you have a student who has demonstrated excellence in the classroom, someone who is working harder than the rest, someone who is deserving of the honor of representing the United States in a Team format, I urge you to take part in this exciting international opportunity.

Black Belt students, if you meet the above criteria and are looking to test your skills against the best Black Belts in the World, this is for you.

On behalf of Grandmaster Scott McNeely, we are hosting the "official" Team USA try-outs for this event. Each team consists of 5 members, 1 alternate and a coach. The teams are broken down into the following: We are looking for qualified coaches as well.
Mens Team - 17 years old and up
Womens Team - 17 years old and up
Junior Boys Team - 13 - 16 years old
Junior Girls Team - 13 - 16 years old

Competition consists of Continuous Sparring, Patterns, and Breaking. Patterns are all 1st degree Black Belt Forms. Due to the logistics of this National try-out, If you make the team you will be given a specific training routine which MUST be performed in order to keep a uniform level of technique amongst team members. Team practices will be held on a weekly basis for those who can take advantage of this opportunity. A Mandatory practice will be held on Saturday, April 10th for ALL Team Members. All pattern routines will be videotaped at this time for the team member to take home with them to practice choreography.

In my nearly 40 years of martial arts training, besides the joy of watching my students grow and mature into Black Belts, my fondest Taekwondo memories are from the times I spent competing for our country all over the world. The training, the international bonds, the opportunity to be a part of something greater than yourself, and most of all, the HONOR of representing the USA, all hold a dear place in my heart. Grandmaster McNeely and I are looking forward to sharing this with a new generation of Black Belts.
